How to get to Sigiriya area

Sigiriya is a small village located in the centre of the island of Sri Lanka, far away from the traffic of Colombo and Kandy, this area was at the top of our bucket list of places to absolutely visit during our time in Sri Lanka.

Sigiriya village, located close to the bigger city of Dambulla, is easily reachable by bus, car or driving a rented car or Tuktuk.

02. Safari in Kandulla National Park

Sigiriya counts three National Parks: Kaudulla, Minneriya and Angammedilla. These three parks offer incredible safaris experiences to spot all beautiful wilderness of Sri Lanka. Jumping on an early morning safari in one of these national parks of this area will probably mean finding yourself in pure contact with nature and animals like elephants, leopards and many more . We personally opted for the Kandulla National Parks that counts the biggest amount of elephants of the entire country. Organising a safari in this park will be super easy, just ask at your hotel and for sure they will be able to help you with that. Price will be around 40$ per person and safari will last around 4-5 hours! Believe us! you won't regret the experience!

03. Avukana Buddha Statue

Avukana temple is mostly known for its towering, serene statue of Lord Buddha. The statue is carved intricately into a huge, single stone. It takes around 1 hr to get from Sigiriya village to the Buddha Statue and the entrance fee is around 5$.

04. Polonnaruwa Ancient City

Polonnaruwa Anciwent City is part of the Unesco Heritage and it is definitely between the top things to do in. the Sigiriya area. The site is full of ancient ruins and temples that show the importance of this capital. Covering between temples is required for shoulders and legs. Remind to take caution with the many monkeys around the site. Entrance is 25$ and distance from Sigiriya village is 1:10 hrs (55km)

05. Explore the area

Just jump on a tuktuk or a scooter and lose yourself in this area. This is absolutely one the most pure parts of Sri Lanka and super safe to drive as streets are small and not crowded of traffic. Landscapes are incredible! Probably you will meet elephants on the street, in that case, please take care and never stop to feed them or to touch them... remember, they're wild animals!
